Each case is planned by the CyberKnife Team composed of oncologists, medical physicists, and other physicians appropriate to the treatment site. The patient is scheduled for scans including, but not necessarily limited to, CT and MRI, following consultation with the surgeon and radiation oncologist. After these scans the patient returns home and the treatment team, directed by the radiation oncologist, plans the treatment. This planning is done without the patient being present and can take several days. The patient will generally be scheduled for treatment within a week of the scans. Treatment may be given in a single visit, or in a short series of three to five treatments. Treatment times vary depending upon the size and shape of the target. Some treatments may be as short as one half-hour while others may require two hours or more. The patient returns home following each treatment.
							Following are some of the conditions that may be treated by CyberKnife: intracranial tumors and lesions extracranial tumors and lesions spinal tumors malignant tumors, primarily metastasis benign tumors acoustic neuromas schwannomas meningiomas pituitary adenomas arterial venous malformations functional disorders such as trigeminal neuralgia The CyberKnife is not appropriate for use in all patients.
